Struggling to Make Progress in Therapy? It Might Be Undiagnosed ADHD

You’re putting in the effort. You’re showing up. So why does it still feel like everything is harder than it should be?

If anxiety still runs the show, emotional reactions spark like wildfires, and even small tasks feel overwhelming, it’s not because you’re lazy or not trying hard enough. Sometimes what looks like “treatment resistance” is actually undiagnosed ADHD.

That’s where we come in. We specialize in uncovering the underlying issues so that you (or your teen) can finally move forward with a care plan that actually fits.

Signs of ADHD in Teens and Adults: It’s More Than Just Focus

ADHD isn’t just about focus, it’s about functioning. Most people hear “ADHD” and picture a fidgety kid in a classroom, but in real life, especially for teens and adults, ADHD can hide in plain sight:

  • Emotional outbursts that come out of nowhere

  • Getting stuck in thought loops

  • “All or nothing” thinking that leads to shame or shutdowns

  • Struggles with follow-through, motivation, and impulse control

  • Meltdowns that don’t make sense, even to the person having them

And when therapy doesn’t help the way it should, you start to think you’re the problem. But what if it’s not you? What if it’s an untreated neurotype that just needs a different kind of support?

Why ADHD Testing Matters

  • Understand what’s getting in the way

  • Tailor therapy to what you or your teen actually need

  • Supporting nervous system—beyond “manage symptoms”

  • Explore accommodations, medication, and other supports

ADHD Testing Isn’t a Label, It’s a Lifeline

Getting tested for ADHD isn’t about “putting you in a box.” It’s about understanding why things have felt so hard and giving yourself permission to stop white-knuckling life.

When you have the full picture, you can:

  • Stop blaming yourself for the way your brain is wired

  • Adjust therapy goals and strategies to match your actual needs

  • Explore medication, accommodations, or tools without guesswork

  • Shift from shame to self-trust

  • Finally feel seen by your care team and by yourself

ADHD testing is one step toward clarity, calm, and confidence.

What ADHD Testing Looks Like at Our Practice

ADHD testing won’t fix everything overnight but it can change the story you're telling yourself. It can point you toward the kind of support that actually fits. And sometimes, that’s the shift that makes everything else possible. Here’s what you can expect from start to finish:

1. Meet with a Therapist

We start with a one-on-one session to hear your story. What’s been working, what hasn’t, and what’s led you here? It’s not just intake; it’s connection and context.

2. Take A 20-Minute Qb Test

This FDA-cleared tool measures attention, activity, and impulse control using a computer-based task. It’s quick, research-backed, and helps us see the neuro markers of ADHD in real time.

3. Visual Report

We provide a clear, visual breakdown of your results. No confusing medical jargon, no guesswork. Just straightforward explanations and real-life recommendations to help you move forward with confidence.

Cost: $350
Time Commitment: 45-120 minutes
Ages: 13–60

Need ADHD Testing for School, IEP, or Formal Accommodations?

Qb Testing may not meet the requirements for all institutions. Full-scale evaluations with a psychologist offer a more comprehensive (and more costly) option, especially for formal accommodations.

Still, many of our clients find Qb Testing deeply validating — offering clarity, supporting treatment decisions, and affirming their lived experience.

Frequently Asked Questions About ADHD Testing

  • At this time, this process is not covered by insurance due to the strict qualification requirements they still have in place.

  • We can provide a superbill for the specific QB Test administered, which will not reflect the full $350 fee but only the fee of the QB testing, but most insurances will not reimburse due to their strict guidelines on qualifications of test administrators.

  • QbTest is a powerful clinical tool that provides objective data, but a full diagnosis comes from a licensed and specially trained provider who interprets the results alongside your history and symptoms. We use this data to guide next steps, which may include a formal diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Note, though, that clients have the right to request certain things not be included in their medical record when they are paying in cash without using insurance. Chat with us about this if you want to know more.

  • Submit a request to get booked and if you have questions you can chat with one of our care providers.
